Suspended life
When the earthquake struck Nepal on April 25, 2015, a large part of the city of Bhaktapur turned into a land of dust and desolation. The tremor and its aftershocks not only damaged the city's cultural heritage; above all, they destroyed the homes of its people and took the lives of over three hundred. A profound silence reigned in the city previously bubbling with life. Among the survivors, some died from their injuries several weeks after the disaster. Others remained for a long time overwhelmed and speechless, standing still beside the ruins or wandering in the maze of streets. Yet, despite the immensity of the tragedy, most inhabitants reacted with great fortitude to start clearing the rubble and breathe life into the frozen city.
